Remote Sensing
Remote Sensing Devices (RSDs), a new state-of-the art emissions testing technology developed and patented by Environmental Systems Products (ESP), measure tailpipe emissions as motor vehicles pass
through ultraviolet and infrared beams cast across a roadway. As vehicles pass by the emissions analyzer, infrared and ultraviolet beams are directed across the road from a light source (the source and detector module), bounced off the lateral transfer mirror and directed back across the road to the detector module. When the light beams are broken by a passing car, the detector measures exhaust plume concentrations of Carbon Monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbons (HC) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx).

The quick, drive-by test offers a unique convenience to motorists. RSD ensures accurate, reliable and discreet emissions testing and fleet monitoring using state-of-the-art technology. RSD technology can be used to:
|
- Identify vehicles that are excess polluters, enabling early detection and repair of those vehicles
- Identify low-emitting, clean cars, as a customer convenience to exempt their vehicles from a scheduled inspection at a fixed test facility.
- Evaluate vehicle emissions programs by monitoring vehicles in the entire fleet.

RSD is currently not part of the AirCare program. For more information on RSD technology, visit ESP.
