The Information Systems (IS) Department has a team of Information Technology (IT) professionals responsible for overseeing the company's computer systems, processing AirCare inspection data and maintaining the vehicle emissions testing software. The computer systems comprise a network of over 200 computers at 12 locations. The Central Data Processing (CDP) Centre is capable of processing vehicle inspection data and transmitting the results to the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) within a few minutes. The Central Database System (CDS) stores all inspection data going back to 1992.
AirCare Certified Repair Facilities can access vehicle inspection information and upload repair data through a specially engineered network called RepairNet. The general public can also access vehicle inspection information, odometer readings and inspection centre wait times on the AirCare website. The 10 AirCare Inspection Centres and the Technical Support Centre are linked to the CDP at the Burnaby headquarter by a wide area Virtual Private Network (VPN). Vehicle inspection data generated at the Inspection Centres are transmitted to the CDP through the wide area network. The data is then processed and stored in the Central Database System. The processed vehicle inspection information is transmitted to ICBC through a dedicated network. All data processing and transmissions take place in real time. |
